An Evil Day

An Evil Day

April 7, 1994 was an evil day.  It was not just a day of evil in one place, but a day of evil across continents.

It was on 6 April 1992 that the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina began.

And it was on 6 April 1994 that the Rwandan Genocide began with the plane crash of the Rwanda President Juvenal Habyarimana.

Agathe Uwilingiyimana, the first and only female prime minister in Rwanda, was one of the first victims.  She and her husband were murdered by the Presidential Guard on 7 April 1994.

Agathe Uwilingiyimana

An outspoken advocate of women in a country where women were expected to remain quiet, and woman with  an advanced education in the sciences in a society where women were expected to learn to care for the home; Agathe Uwilingiyimana was also the mother of five children who would, thanks to her actions, survive the Rwandan genocide.
