The Premier of the Premier

The Premier of the Premier

On 15 January 1970 Muammar Qaddafi was named Premier of the Libyan Arab Republic.

A military revolutionary who looked to Egypt’s Gamal Abdel Nasser as a personal hero, Qaddafi’s future as the dictator of the oft-renamed country the rest of the world would know in shorthand as Libya would never be anything less than interesting.

Seen by various interests as a supporter of the revolution and a supporter of terrorism, Qaddafi managed to have conflicts with a significant percentage of the world’s nations.

His end would come in 2011 with the Arab Spring, in a coup much more bloody than the one that brought him to power over forty years before.
